SPOTLIGHT: ANTON GOLTERMANN

Published October 8, 2024

On Friday 11 October we celebrate the release of Anton Goltermann‘s debut EP “Carefree Existence” with a release party in Red Box. Joining the young entrepreneur in the booth we are also charmed with Savi DJ and Slumjuice, who contributed to the EP as well. Join the festivities, and learn more about Anton’s background in music and the work he’s done on the forthcoming release in this spotlight feature.

Congratulations on your forthcoming debut EP “Carefree Existence”. How has it been to work on?

Thank you! It’s been a lot of work and a long journey for me. The initial versions of the tracks were created in late 2023, and I’ve gone back and forth with ideas many times. The lengthy process of creating and releasing my EP on my own has been challenging, but it has taught me so much. Ultimately, it has also made me more satisfied with the final result.

What’s the sound and vibe you’ve been going for?

I really love the sound and vibe of records from the late ’90s and early 2000s. I’m drawn to that era’s music and the way it was created. It felt natural for me to use hardware gear to capture that sound I love so much. However, while that’s where my inspiration and creativity sparks, I find that my tracks often end up sounding more modern, infused with the nostalgic vibes of the old sound I love.

How did you get into producing electronic music in the first place?

I began making music at 16, initially focusing on hip-hop. I was deeply inspired by the art of sampling with vintage hardware and really admired producers like Tue Track and Floppykat. Later on my musical interests evolved, and I transitioned into DJing and producing electronic music. I find that electronic music offers more creative freedom and limitless possibilities, which is why I eventually gravitated toward it.

What’s your relation to your hometown? Has it influenced where you are today in terms of working with electronic music?

I have lived in Ballerup my whole life but recently moved to Copenhagen. One thing my hometown taught me was to take matters into my own hands. Nothing much happens in Ballerup, so I always had to seek out opportunities. However, I have spent a lot of time in Roskilde, and the place and the people I met there definitely influenced where I am today.

You have been very active in organising events and raves both in Roskilde and the Capitol. Can you tell us a little about your different projects?

Yes! Right now, I’m really proud of a project that’s going exceptionally well: Eternity Rave. We’re a nonprofit crew that organizes raves in Roskilde. There are almost no venues for electronic music lovers in the area, so we’re thrilled to bring that to the community. I’m also still part of the hip-hop collective Hvadcru and we host a lot of events. My newest project is at Jolene, where I curate live concerts for my monthly night called “Live from the Floor.”

How are you celebrating the release on 11 October?

On the lineup, I’m bringing Daniel Savi (Savi DJ), Rasmus, and Per (Slumjuice) to celebrate our release. Along with Andy Zones they did the remixes and helped with a lot of other things. I also know many of my friends will be joining, so my plan is to hang out with great people, deliver a killer set, and enjoy the fact that I finished this project, leaving time for making more music!

If you can have the Culture Box audience remember one thing from the release party following your performance on 11 October, what would it be?

Good question. I want the audience to remember the night for the experience of what electronic music can offer. I want them to feel a sense of carefree existence throughout the night. If just one person feels that with one of my tracks, then the EP is a huge success in my eyes.
