Meet some of the people who use our offer of free Open Practice Sessions on Tuesdays as a place to practice and build up their skills.
Presenting: Daniel
For how long have you been DJing?
I started DJing 5 years ago, but more professionally for 3 years, playing clubs and venues.
What’s your taste in music?
My genres of choice would be house music, techno and trance, but mainly house music. I have an affinity for deep, dubby vibes and that’s also what I like to play. It’s quite hard to genre tag music nowadays but I would put my choice of playing within minimal, sometimes exceeding that spectrum limitations of minimal, more like uk minimal, deep house or even house music, but mostly, my go to sub-genres still have a minimal approach to the higher audio spectrum.
What did you practice today?
Today I have focused on basics: transitions, correct phrasing and better understanding of equipment. I have also tried to bring a better presence to my performance by being active because today I have filmed my set so my cameras were my “audience”.
What worked well for you today?
Everything was, more or less, spot on. I have gotten to know the A9 mixer you guys provide a bid better, but I also got better at mixing with ear protection in a loud environment since hearing protection can alter the sound quite a lot.
Based on today’s practice do you have any notes to yourself?
I realised how important it is to keep my library organised so it’s easy to find tracks when I need to. Preparation in this sense makes me more confident I can perform and adapt to the audience I play for.
What are you missing in the scene these days?
I think regular open decks nights are something the Danish scene is missing at the moment. Friday it could be a good idea to have an open decks timeslot from 20:00 to 22:00, this way promoters could test the exposure of an upcoming artist, and would help new DJs to showcase their skills in a live setting and network with other DJs and like-minded people.
