PRACTICE SESSION JOURNAL: VANPANA
Published December 18, 2024
Meet some of the passionate people who use our offer of free Open Practice Sessions on Tuesdays as a place to practice and build up their skills. This time around we present an upcoming Black Box debutant!
Presenting: vanpana (he/him)
For how long have you been DJing?
I have tried it for fun a long time ago, but it wasn’t until 2021 that I started to really dive into the craft and develop a deeper understanding of the details that make it special.
What genres of music are you in to?
Nowadays there’s a fine line when it comes to genres when there are DJs and producers that are pushing the boundaries with every release. When I’m playing at venues, I gravitate towards hypnotic, fast techno that keeps the crowd moving. I always appreciate tracks that bring a unique character through their sound design and can keep me fascinated about how the different elements interact.
What did you practise this Tuesday?
This unboxed session was particularly special, as I teamed with a couple of friends trying out some analog hardware live setup and custom visuals. We refined our workflow when it comes to creating a live experience to a crowd and I think the opportunity to try out a high-quality sound system made us understand how our tracks translate to the dance floor. And since my productions are constructed more-or-less the same way as performing live, it’s important to have a reference like this.
What can we expect from you for your gig in Black Box on Friday?
I’m really looking forward to Friday’s gig, it’s hard to imagine a better debut for the Black Box. I’ll be sharing the decks with three artists whose sets and approach to building the night’s atmosphere truly resonate with me. I’m excited to keep the crowd energized and moving well into the early hours, while adding my signature touch with some unreleased tracks that perfectly complement the night’s vibe.
Catch vanpana alongside techno futurist Matrixxman, Ida Aya and Arvy in Black Box on Friday 20 December. Read more here.
