SPOTLIGHT: SOUNDS GOOD

Published December 14, 2025

Sounds Good is a Copenhagen-based collective driven by a shared love of music in all its forms. With their Black Box takeover on January 3rd coming up, we spoke to the crew about their origins and approach to sound.

For people hearing about Sounds Good for the first time — how would you describe who you are and what inspired you to create the concept?

“We at Sounds Good are a group of mates who found each other in Copenhagen over a shared love of all types of music. Initially coming together to throw a block party–style event where we could show our musical tastes and flex our mixing skills, and starting a SoundCloud mix series for a more deliberate and lasting exhibition with the same intention.

We all come from a range of places — Scotland, England, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, and Denmark — so we’ve had a wide range of musical influence, and this is exactly what we envisioned with Sounds Good. As long as it sounds good, we are into it! This allows us all to flex our different styles and tastes into one big melting pot.

When we threw our first party, we had no specific ambitions as a group. All of us, having lived in Copenhagen for a while, had a good network of local selectors, promoters, and partygoers, were used to the local scene, and just wanted to contribute to Copenhagen’s growing underground music scene in some shape or form. A combination of wanting to collaborate with other crews, curiosity to try new things, and infectious energy snowballed into a crew that organise and promote events with a number of local venues, often involving other crews and a mixture of local and international DJs.”

How would you describe the “Sounds Good sound”? Are there any moods, textures, or influences that define it?

“Sounds Good sounds exactly like that — as long as it sounds good! We would hate to be characterised as having a single sound, as we love all types of music, so people can expect a wide variety from us across different events, but we always want to keep it fun and not take ourselves too seriously. It’s all about people having a good time, and most importantly, dancing. At our events, you can expect boogie, bass, and breaks, with everything in between.”

What values or ideas guide you when curating your nights and building your lineups?

“We are a large group, at 8 members, all with different tastes, so we try to think about what sounds good where, and then we get whoever it most aligns with to build a lineup. We always want to widen our network by getting friends or other DJs in who we like or admire, to try and get the best lineup we can. We also like to get many people in on lineups, as we think it gives a wide variety of music but also makes it feel like a party amongst friends that everyone is invited to.”

What do you hope Sounds Good can contribute to Copenhagen’s electronic music scene?

“We hope that we can bring something different to Copenhagen’s electronic music scene by bringing a wide variety of events and sounds. Not being tied to a particular sound, we are flexible to be a bit different and sometimes think outside of the box. In 2025, we have had parties with international acts like Toy Tonics and Suze Ijo, had many events where we’ve collaborated with other local crews and DJs, and even threw a DJ battle at Distortion and a boat party on the open water. So the main thing we always bring is a good time!”

Your takeover at Black Box on January 3rd is kicking off the new year — what can people expect from that night?

“It will be like we’re having a house party on one of the best sound systems and club rooms in Copenhagen, and the whole city is invited!”
