FACES OF CULTURE BOX: NIKOLAJ

With our Faces of Culture Box-series we’re profiling good friends of the house, staff and regulars who all participate in making our venue a vibrant and stimulating affair. Nikolaj is no exception. He always brings good vibes and an open mindset. Get to know one of our cherished regulars in this small interview.
Age: 22
First time I went to Culture Box… was with a good friend of mine, we went to see Teenage Mutants. It was by far one of the best party experiences I have ever had.
I come here because… I was getting tired of the regular clubs here in Copenhagen it got more and more the same every time you went, and for me there wasn’t really anything new. Culture Box always has something new to offer with new people and new DJ’s and therefor a different experience every time. The atmosphere and vibe at Culture Box is in my opinion something you can’t find anywhere else in Copenhagen.
My favorite DJ or live act is… It is always difficult to pick between certain people when it comes to something you enjoy.
Tim Andresen’s What happens nights, is something that I definitely think people should come to and experience. The energy and general vibe that Tim brings with all of his sets is something that I wouldn’t wanna miss out on. It’s just a whole other level of partying and dancing. Then there is FJAAK. I have been listening to them for years now and I was so lucky that I got to see them play at Distortion Ø. It was by far one of the best experiences I have had, to see someone like them live in Denmark was very surreal to me. CERJ is another name I look for on lineups, such an awesome guy, always has the best tracks loaded and you can just see he is enjoying what he does when he jumps behind the decks, that’s what makes it a delight to see him. My last pick is for sure Gabriella Vergilov, I remember seeing her for the first time at Karrusel festival and I have seen her many, many times after that, she is just so skilled and energetic, you can be a good DJ and know how the mixers work, but its also about personality. All the names above all play in their own unique way which makes the hair on your arms rise (goosebumps).
My best Culture Box memory…
I have many, many memories from Culture Box and it’s hard picking just one. I think one of them would probably be the first night I ever went. Everything was just perfect for me, and I felt at home with all these people I didn’t knew. Second one would be the reunion weekend where everyone was excited to see each other and dance again. That night was incomparable to other nights in its own way.
It’s a very long list.
What I love most about Culture Box is… that every night is different. There is almost always a new artist playing in their own unique way, so that brings a lot of variety to the club. I have met so many nice and interesting personalities at Culture Box from so many different countries. It is always fun sitting in the smoking area and talking to someone you have never spoken with before and then go and dance with them. Everyone is very open and we are all there for the same purpose, it feels like you are a part of a little family every Friday and Saturday night, except this family you drink and dance with.
I love that Culture Box is engaging so much with the community and that they host events outside of the regular club hours to connect with the clubbers and people in general.
I want to mention the staff and management of Culture Box. They are always very, very welcoming and helpful, they have always been very nice and respectful to me.
In the future I’d like to see…FJAAK play at Culture Box since they are my favourite act, they play their sets in a very unique way that you can’t really find a lot of places, the energy they give when they play is also something that gets the crowd moving.
I think the future of the electronic music scene in Denmark is going to be…
Electronic music is becoming mainstream in Denmark, a lot of artist and clubs are beginning to find their own take on electronic music, and what sub-genre to present. I am very excited to see how this plays out and how the scene will continue to evolve with so many new approaches to it.
What I love most about electronic music is…that there are so many different genres and different communities that all connect in some way. There is so much to pick from, and you will always be able to find something new if you get bored of one genre. I can always play something no matter what mood I am in, everything from Techno in the morning to Lounge House in the night. There will always be a genre that will fit into a certain time and place.
