PRACTICE SESSION JOURNAL: EXNR

Published January 25, 2024

Meet some of the people who use our offer of free Open Practice Sessions on Tuesdays as a place to practice and build up their skills.

Presenting: exnr (they/them)

For how long have you been DJing?

I went to a workshop with Future Female Sounds in 2020 and have been DJing since then.

What genres of music do you prefer?

When I DJ, I gravitate more towards percussion, drums and bass, funky rhythms, heavy beats, things that either fill me with joy or makes me wanna scream. I’m inspired by names like DJ Plead, Roska, Karen Nyeme KG, Surusinghe.

What did you practice today?

Having fun while making mistakes, haha.

What worked well for you today?

I played a lot of new tracks, and it’s always fun to see how they make me feel when I’m not listening from my bedroom lol.

What do you need to practice more?

I play a lot of different music from drum and bass to baile to afro house, and I’m super excited (and nervous) to see how people will engage with some of the more “challenging” tracks.
